It is 1963, the Space Age is in its infancy and Italian architect Joe Colombo designs a piece that will define the aesthetics of the era: we are obviously talking about the Elda armchair, named after his beloved wife, produced by Comfort and later by Longhi. It is hard to believe that these sinuous curves, made of fibreglass and leather, will be sixty years old in 2023: good design is truly timeless! Over the years, the Elda has been produced in three different body colours (black, grey and white, the present) and a wide range of upholstery, mainly leather. However, the most iconic and sought-after is the white/black leather shell, the present one, not least because it integrates easily with virtually any interior. The chair on offer is well preserved, with the fibreglass shell showing slight marks under the armrests; the upholstery has recently been reupholstered, retaining the original smooth black leather. At this moment the chair is perfect and ready to be placed in a space age interior!
