Oil painting on panel from the 20th century by Luigi Scarpa Croce (Venice, 1901 – 1967) depicting a view of Venice with the church of San Isepo a Castello. Signed lower right "L. Scarpa Croce". On the back, stamp of the Luigi Scarpa Croce Retrospective / 15-28 April 1967 – Opera Bevilacqua La Masa. The painting, in excellent condition, depicts a typical view of Venice with a canal and a church in the background. It is characterized not only by the pleasant subject, but also by the vivid light that is reflected in the colored touches of the canal water, in the play of chiaroscuro of the green of the trees and in the light and warm tones of the buildings and the sky. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1923 after studying under the guidance of Ettore Tito, Scarpa Croce participated at a very young age in the exhibitions of Ca' Pesaro and at the Venice International Art Biennale where he also exhibited in 1928, 1932, 1934 ( invited), 1935 (invited), 1940, 1942, 1948, 1950. In 1930 he was called as artistic consultant to the first Quadrennial in Rome. His activity in the glass sector was also extensive, in which he worked, as a designer and as a technician, from 1940 to 1942 and from 1950 to 1956. He exhibited in almost all the collective exhibitions of the Opera Bevilacqua La Masa from 1926 to 1957. And he will Bevilacqua La Masa itself will celebrate him with a personal exhibition and a few months after his death in 1967 with a catalog enriched by an introduction by Diego Valeri.
