Feltri armchair by Gaetano Pesce for Cassina, 1980s

Feltri armchair by Gaetano Pesce for Cassina, 1980s (designed in 1987). Made with a production technique patented by Cassina, Feltri is a symbol of avant-garde design, the result of representative research played on the hybrid terrain between art and practicality. Made entirely of thick felted wool, this designer armchair by Pesce combines a welcoming and flexible backrest with a rigid lower part; a quilted topper creates a cozy cocoon. The seat is fixed to the frame with black hemp tie rods which also outline the upper edges of the armchair. A familiar figure on many modern antiques and collecting sites, Feltri is a synthesis of thinking on figuration in the hybrid zone where art meets functionality. One of a kind, this piece stands out for its enormous flexibility and the fact that the mattress-shaped seat can be upholstered in a wide range of fabrics.
