Garden Egg armchair by Peter Ghyczy for Reuter, 1960s. Red plastic shell and white seat covering. The shell is in very good condition, without any chips on the edge. The hinge fits perfectly and is not broken. There are only minor signs of wear on the lower edge of the shell. The "lid" of this armchair acts as a backrest when open and, when closed, provides protection from the elements for use in the garden. This piece of furniture is a Space Age style work of art and will be a highlight in any room or garden. Peter Ghyczy designed this armchair in the late 1960s for Gottfried Reuter and the manufacturer Elastogran. When the company was sold to BASF, production of the chair moved to East Germany and was nicknamed the Senftenberg Egg. An important piece of German design history. Seat height: 27 cm.
