After Guido Reni, St. Philip Neri, oil on canvas, late 18th century
SILVER Seller in Padova, Italia
Framed painting of the Italian school from the late 18th and early 19th century. The painting is a copy of the famous painting that Guido Reni made for the chapel of St. Philip Neri in the church of Santa Maria in Vallicella in Rome. The saint is depicted in priestly attire and in a gesture of adoration towards the Virgin and Child at top left, supported by some angels. At lower left is the iconography of the lily. Re-painted in the past, it bears the signs of some restoration work. The 19th century frame is made of gilded wood and needs minor restoration. The canvas measures 102 cm wide and 140 cm high.
