Item description
Pair of LP10 Bidone wall lights by Luigi Caccia Dominioni for Azucena, 1950s. Caccia Dominioni is perhaps the most important architect of post-World War II Milan. His designs had a great impact on the reconstruction of the devastated city, while paving the way for the new style that would be called "Milanese rationalism" by historians and critics. But in addition to being a prolific architect, author of some of the city's most famous residential buildings, he also worked extensively as a designer, dealing with lighting and furniture. In 1947, together with colleagues Ignazio Gardella and Corrado Corradi Dell'Acqua, he founded Azucena. The brand, named after a flower, was active for many years in the field of high-end design. After a stop of several years, Azucena was revived and continues to produce the pieces for which it became famous in the past; however, it is the original pieces that drive collectors crazy at auctions and on the vintage market. The pair of LP10 lamps proposed here, nicknamed "Bidone" (because their shape resembles a milk can, "bidone del latte" in italian), is indeed part of the first production, as the details and patina suggest. The glass shades are probably original and match the originals exactly in shape, length and diameter. The lamps are fully functioning and have recently been serviced by a professional electrician to ensure their safety during use. They are delivered with the black wire visible in the picture, a switch and a plug. They can be easily converted for direct wall wiring.
