Item description
A Bastiano sofa by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Gavina, 1970s. Designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in 1962, Bastiano is a sculptural sofa that fully expresses the couple's design philosophy. Their distinctive elements - geometric wooden structure, soft leather, essential but timeless lines - are all present in Bastiano, which stands as a manifesto of their design. Conceptually similar to the Monk and Pigreco chairs, this sofa is a piece that will never go out of fashion: it is so beautiful and contemporary that it could have been designed today. The set pictured in this listing demonstrates how easily it blends with contemporary collectibles to create a stunning living nook. The piece we offer is preserved in original condition and has no damage to the wooden structure but on the leather the predictable signs of six decades of life in a private home. The leather of the cushions is partially unstitched and there are some signs (but not visible as the back cushions cover them). Seat height: 38 cm.
