Art Nouveau walnut bookcase with lectern, early 20th century
SILVER Seller in Macerata, Italy
Art Nouveau bookcase/sideboard with upper door that acts as a lectern; this can be opened with a flap and has a compartment inside. It is made of walnut with solid wood parts carved with floral motifs and veneered parts. The piece of furniture was used as a display cabinet and was part of the furnishings of a small bar in the 1910s-20s. The top was inclined to offer customers a support surface to leaf through the newspaper. The structure of the furniture is sturdy but has some missing parts as shown in the photo; having never been restored, it requires interventions but overall it can also be used as it currently is.
