Item description

We advise you to read the entire description, as we try to provide detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. An original and very particular pair of Italian wall sconces; each is composed of three chrome-plated brass tubes at the top of which are the lamp holders; these tubes are connected to another tube divided in half that rests on the wall and contains the wires for the electrical connections. Let us say at once that in both sconces these half-pipes have some chrome-plating defects due to time (well highlighted in the photos): however, when the sconces are mounted, they are not very visible; a new total chrome-plating would have completely distorted the original colour, so we decided not to do it and to offer them in the state they are at a very attractive price. They were made between 1964 and 1968 in a Milan workshop inspired by a design by Gaetano Sciolari, a famous and prolific Italian designer and entrepreneur, in the style of A Space Age. Angelo Gaetano Sciolari contributed greatly to the success of Italian design around the world, particularly in the United States. Sciolari was an excellent businessman, but also a creative designer. Throughout his career he designed incredible lights. After the death of his father in 1949, Sciolari had to manage the family business. Within a few years, the designer turned the company into an international enterprise! Sciolari's manufacturer became the first Italian seller of lights in the United States. Gaetano Sciolari and his products have been a source of inspiration and model for artisans and important Italian lighting companies. The style of the sconces is the 'Space Age', an aesthetic current that originated at the dawn of the space age, commonly attributed to the launch of Sputnik in October 1957, and continued until the 1970s. The objects of that period are characterised by essential volumes that recall geometric shapes, breaking definitively with the rationalist tradition. Our wall sconces are characterised, as we have said, by a 'spatial' design, typical of those fascinating times; with their essential and geometric style, they are a true piece of furniture that lends a unique atmosphere to the home. The condition of the wall lights is good, as explained above. Measurements: width 19 cm, depth 14 cm, height 26 cm. The electrical system is working but the wiring is European, voltage compatibility in other countries should always be checked by an electrician before use. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) to ensure maximum protection and safety of the items.
