Item description
Pair of Garden Egg armchairs by Peter Ghyczy for Reuter, 1960s. Red plastic shell with white seat coverings. The seat cushions of both armchairs have been covered with white cotton fabric. The shells are in very good condition, without any chips on the edge. Both hinges fit perfectly and are not broken. There are only slight signs of wear on the lower edge of the shell. On one of the armchairs a chip is visible on the upper part of the lid; the lid acts as a backrest when open. This piece is a Space Age work of art and will be a highlight in any room or garden. Peter Ghyczy designed this armchair in the late 1960s for Gottfried Reuter, owner of the Elastogran Manufaktur. When the company was sold to BASF, production of the chair moved to East Germany and was nicknamed Senftenberger Ei. This is an important piece of German design history. Seat height: 27 cm. Seat depth: 46 cm.
