Pair of solid walnut Art Deco armchairs by Gyula Kaesz, 1930s


























Very rare pieces from the late 1930s by Lajos Kozma's colleague, the designer Gyula Kaesz. The upholstery was replaced in the 1970s in accordance with the fashion of the time ‘Vintage, excellent chemical clean condition’. (good for these). The armchairs are all original, including Shellak polish, excellent collector's condition with beautiful patina. Solid walnut wood and fully veneered walnut frame, with curves typical of Gyula Kaesz, bracing and split slatted back. From 1919 to 1952 he was a teacher at the School of Applied Arts (later College), then between 1952 and 1958 he was the director of the School of Applied Arts. He created the Department of Industrial Design. His editorial activity was also important: he was editor of the trade magazine A Bútor between 1935 and 1938. He also participated in the editorship of Architettura Nuova and Tér és Forma. His pieces can also be found in the German edition of the books Innen-Dekoration. H 80 cm x W 66 cm x D 68 cm x H 48 cm.
