Item description
Refined and elegant French Art Déco coffee table made of walnut burl; the entire frame is made of walnut with a beautiful and decorative veneer of precious walnut burl; the upper round top is supported by solid curved legs that at the bottom connect above another small top that acts as a base, below the latter four little feet in the shape of a flattened sphere have been placed so as to give excellent stability to the whole. The coffee table was created by a master craftsman between 1930 and 1935 in a qualified and professional carpentry workshop in the town of Pont-de-Beauvoisin, a French commune in the department of Isère, nicknamed the city of furniture for its ancient tradition of woodworking. The distinctive element and uniqueness of the coffee table is the wood with which it was veneered i.e. walnut burl. Veneering is an ancient woodworking technique that involves applying a thinner layer of fine wood, in this case walnut burl, to a substrate of normal-quality walnut wood; walnut burl is obtained precisely from the root of the tree and looks like a set of twisted and twisted wood fibers that give the wood its characteristic hardness and firmness; it is harvested from trees cultivated specifically for this purpose, it is then cut into thin sheets whose thickness varies from 1 to 2 millimeters; the base wood is prepared by the application of a special glue then the sheets of walnut burl are applied manually and evenly; after this processing, the whole is pressed and allowed to dry, allowing the glue to adhere firmly between the walnut burl and the substrate, creating a stable veneer; this, once dry, is finished by sanding, polishing and the application of protective finishes, such as varnishes or oils, to improve the appearance and durability of the wood. The history of veneering goes back many centuries; it is believed to have been first used in ancient Egypt and China. Over the centuries, this technique has spread throughout the world and has continued to evolve, becoming an important part of the production of high-quality furniture, luxury items and objets d'art Briar also has aesthetic value, as it is very elegant and refined due to its many ever-changing natural grain patterns. Each burl object is a totally unique product. The most common burl is walnut, which is characteristic of luxury furniture. Our coffee table is a valuable and original piece of furniture; it is a perfect and typical example of Art Deco, which with its refined curvilinear structure that is elegant, refined and full of charm is capable of communicating to us suggestions of past times, tradition and functionality.
