Item description
Glazed terracotta bas-relief by Danilo Cartei depicting a lion, 1970s-80s. Danilo Cartei (Signa 12 May 1920 – 7 December 2002) was an Italian painter with natural talent. With the teaching of Giuseppe Santelli and following the example of his brother Alvaro, Cartei showed great skills as a designer from a very young age which led him to be considered almost a child prodigy. One of his portraits of the Duce which appeared in a newspaper in 1933 earned him a photo with a dedication from Mussolini himself, but his main passion was represented by drawing animals of all kinds which he reproduced with extreme accuracy. His work will in fact be almost completely dedicated to the reproduction of animals in drawing and ceramics.
