Item description

Oil painting on panel by Angelo Pavan (Vicenza 1893 – Venice 1945) depicting the Basilica of San Marco. Coming to painting following a path of self-training, from the second half of the 1910s he exhibited at the Milanese exhibitions of Brera (1916, 1918) and of the Società Permanente (1926, 1927, 1928), at the National exhibitions of Padua (1919) and Turin (1920), obtaining the purchase of some works by the royal family. Winner of the first prize in the Antiblasphemo Competition in Vicenza in 1926 (with the poster Il blasphemiatore), he dedicated himself to landscape painting, preferring lagoon, Venetian and Chioggia subjects, alternating with rarer mountain views and some evidence of trips to Abruzzo and Capri but not he neglects to sometimes even try his hand at genre scenes. Repertoire initially interpreted through pointillist references, later replaced by a more personal and broader gait of mellow brushstrokes. Some of his works are preserved in the Gallery of Modern Art in Milan. From the type of brushstroke, smaller or more open and wider, we can recognize the era of creation of the painting. Pavan's favorite subjects are Venice and Chioggia. In the first period of his activity he also often depicted mountain landscapes. Size without frame: 32 x 38 cm.
