Item description

Cesca chair by Marcel Breuer for Gavina, late 1950s - early 1960s. It represents an iconic mix of form and function, embodying the pioneering spirit of modernist design. Designed in 1928 by Breuer, master of the Bauhaus school, the Cesca chair is celebrated for its innovative use of materials and elegant simplicity. This particular Cesca chair was made by Gavina in Bologna, Italy. It features a classic black painted beech frame that adds strength and complements the minimalist design. The seat and back are made from woven cane, a natural material that contrasts beautifully with the dark structure and adds a touch of warmth and texture to the design. The golden honey color of the cane weave has aged beautifully over time, with a beautiful patina that enhances the warm look of the chair. The structure is made of tubular steel, demonstrating Breuer's revolutionary use of this material to create a seamless cantilever design. This construction not only provides exceptional comfort and support but also gives the chair its distinctive and timeless silhouette. This combination of steel, beech and cane highlights the balance between industrial and organic elements that Breuer has mastered. Despite the passage of time the chair remains in perfect original condition. The company brand "Gavina", placed in the lower part of the seat, confirms the original origin and refers to the first versions of the chair produced by this manufacturer. Absolutely minimal signs of use are typical for furniture from this era. We just cleaned them up making sure they can serve in their full charm for decades to come. Seat height: 45 cm.
