Elegant and severe Empire style console with mirror made of mahogany feather with gilded bronze decorations.
Top in Portoro marble, one of the most precious marbles in the world, characterized by a black base decorated with veins ranging from white to golden yellow, extracted in the Gulf of Poets in Porto Venere.
The Empire Style was born in France at the beginning of the 19th century, so called to celebrate the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte, it has a more sober style compared to the styles used in the 18th century, darker colors given the extensive use of mahogany and marble from dark tones. The furniture is no longer inlaid but the decorations are made with the use of bronze.
A variant of this is the Retour d'Egypte style which spread after the return of the victorious Napoleon from the 1799 campaign in Egypt.
The Empire Style is accompanied by Egyptian themed decorations.
The console is original and contemporary in all its parts.
It is in an excellent state of conservation, with no structural defects or signs of wear and a slight patina.
