6 Chairs in bent beech by Sautto & Liberale, 1930s

Set of six Neapolitan Thonet-style chairs by Sautto & Liberale, early 20th century. Mahogany-colored curved beech structure, woven seat. Seat height: 46 cm. They have been polished while maintaining the original patina. Naples is the capital of the Italian version of the Thonet style, and there are three companies famous for bentwood: Arx, Sautto & Liberale and Wiener. Sautto & Liberale is the most important company, born from the experience of Francesco Liberale and the capital of Carmine Sautto, the company whose chairs they are. The company is distinguished by a lion with paws, in fact its products are also advertised as “Lion chairs,” and it was founded in the late 1930s. Many of the Thonet-style pieces produced by Sautto & Liberale are renowned and very famous.
