Item description

These are two hand-carved alabaster lion sculptures dating from the 1870s, designed in the Roman style. Each sculpture features a lion standing on a rectangular base, with one paw resting on a spherical object, a common motif in classical art symbolising strength and control. The craftsmanship shows a detailed mane and muscular features reflecting the skill of Italian artisans of the time. The sculptures have a patina of time, adding to their antique charm. They probably served as decorative pieces, perhaps for a mantelpiece or display shelf. They are in original condition and patina, with some losses as can be seen from the photos.
