Serenity Blu (ice blue) velvet ‘Marlo’ model bed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Molteni, Italy 1980s. The rare ‘Marlo’ bed was designed in 1982 as an improved version of the ‘Morna’ bed of the 1970s. It is made of wood, serenity blue velvet and black lacquered metal. The headboard structure has a mechanism that adjusts the height and angle of the cushion in three different positions and is covered with beautiful cushions in Serenity Blu velvet. The front of the bed has two black wooden legs and the back has black wooden castors. Dimensions: 180 x 210 cm, 28 cm is the height of the wooden platform and the maximum height of the headboard is 85 cm. The bed is in excellent condition vintage. It shows some small traces of wear, especially on the castors. The velvet is free of flaws and damage and has only a few small areas of wear that are difficult to notice. The metal frame is in excellent condition and the bed frame is free of defects. Afra (1937-2011) & Tobia Scarpa (1935-) both studied at the Institute of Architecture in Venice. Tobia initially worked for the Italian glass company Venini. Starting in 1960, the pair opened their own design studio. Their work includes architecture and everyday objects such as furniture and clothes. Tobia & Afra have designed for many important Italian and international companies such as Flos, Gavina, B&B Italia, Cassina, Knoll International and many interior projects for numerous companies worldwide. Molteni is an Italian high-end furniture company founded in the 1930s. It has a long and rich history of producing high-end furniture designed by many famous Italian and European designers.
