Item description

This Italian space age armchair closely resembles the “Carrera” Lounge Chair, designed in the late 1960s by a team of prominent Italian designers: Giorgio Decursu, Jonathan de Pas, Donato D’Urbino, and Paolo Lomazzi, and produced by the Italian furniture company BBB Emmebonacina. The unique and unconventional design of this lounge chair reflects the designers’ innovative approach to furniture. They were part of the post-war Italian design movement that embraced new materials and forms, often creating pieces that were both playful and functional. This lounge chair is emblematic of sleek, modernist aesthetics, with its unusual shape, organic curves, and lines that perfectly align with space-age design principles. The armchair features a metal frame that provides both strength and the ability to create its distinctive shape. The frame is covered with stitched, high-quality aniline leather pieces, which add a varied, patchwork style to the chair. The lines and stitching in the design make it truly one of a kind. The design of the lounge chair focuses on ergonomics, with a nicely cushioned seating area that offers a comfortable experience while maintaining a stylish appearance. This balance between form and function is a hallmark of the designers’ work and of Italian design from this period in general. The lounge chair is in original condition, with patina from age that adds character. There are also slight discoloration and wrinkles, that are part of the natural aging process of aniline leather. The chair has been reconditioned with a special leather wax, this process can be repeated over time for adding a lively look. Aniline leathers last very long. Seat height: 36 cm, armrests height: 48 cm.
